WOMEN SUPPORTING WOMEN

CELEBRATING 10 YEARS

Marking its 10th year, the Black Pepper Ovarian Cancer Campaign continues its unwavering commitment to funding vital initiatives for Ovarian Cancer Australia (OCA). Over the past decade, the campaign has raised more than $800,000 to support specialist nurses who stand beside patients through every step of diagnosis, treatment, recovery and beyond.

To mark this milestone, the 2025 campaign shines a spotlight on 10 stories for 10 years. These deeply personal accounts come from survivors, family members, psychologists, nurses, and advocates—showcasing the strength, compassion, and resilience of the community united in this fight.

Ovarian cancer is Australia’s deadliest female cancer, but through this campaign, Black Pepper and OCA reaffirm that no one faces it alone. Because it truly takes a village.

OCA is an independent national not-for-profit organisation, supporting women diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Their focus is to provide care and support for those affected by ovarian cancer, and represent them by leading change.

MEET THE INCREDIBLE FACES BEHIND OUR 2025 OCA CAMPAIGN

VICTORIA TURNER

AND HER MUM

At 59, Victoria was diagnosed with stage 3C high-grade serous ovarian cancer. As a nurse and lecturer, Victoria was familiar with healthcare but didn’t recognise her own symptoms until it was too late. Now in remission, Victoria advocates for ovarian cancer awareness, drawing on her personal experience to educate others. We were delighted to create a special moment for Victoria and her mum to do the campaign together.

MARY DOUMANY

AND HER MUSIC

Mary Doumany, an acclaimed Australian harpist, singer, and composer, has enjoyed a remarkable career, however, her life took a sharp turn when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Despite losing her singing voice due to treatment, Mary embraced her new reality, keeping a buzz cut as a defiant statement of self-acceptance.

We’re touched to have had the opportunity to record our OCA Awareness Campaign video with her improvising on the harp, and the beautiful music she created became the perfect backdrop for the video.

CHRISTINE CRUPI

AND HER SUPPORT NETWORK

Initially dismissing symptoms, Christine’s world shattered when she was forced to confront her new identity as a cancer patient. Christine underwent a radical hysterectomy and chemotherapy, experiencing a whirlwind of emotions.

Christine had the opportunity to bring two special people to the campaign shoot: her friend and her nurse.

JO YATES

AND HER LOCAL BLACK PEPPER STORE MANAGER

42-year-old Jo was living a healthy, active lifestyle in Noosa, Queensland. But during a routine cervical cancer screening test, her doctor spotted an abnormality. The physical toll was immense, but Jo found the mental impact of her diagnosis the hardest to manage.
